St. Mary’s parish is organizing parish council elections. In the election, six members will be elected to the parish council, for a term of five years. All members of the parish, who have reached the age of 18 years, are entitled to vote. A candidate must be a member of St. Mary’s parish who is at least 18 years old, and be fully associated with the Church, known for having strong faith, high morals and prudence.
A member of the parish may nominate himself/herself as a candidate, or may nominate another member of the parish, if in writing the person confirms his / her consent to the candidacy. The candidates must inform the Parish Priest in writing by 31.10 2017. Forms for nomination for candidacy can be obtained at St. Mary’s church, the parish office, the parish website, and the parish hall.
The list of candidates will be published in the church and in the Maria Magazine. Ballots will be sent to the parishioners in the magazine. One may vote by sending the ballot by way of mail or by bringing it to the church. The voting period expires on 30.11.2017 and on Sunday 3.12.2017 the election results will be made public.
The duty of the parish council is to, under the leadership of the Parish Priest, take care of parish life, support and promote it, present opinions of the parishioners, as well as give opinions and make recommendations to other diocesan committees and councils. One member of the parish council is elected to the diocesan pastoral council to represent the parish.
